A member who plays an important role in this is your dental hygienist. You may notice you spend a bit of time with them during your checkup<\/a>, but you might be curious about what else they do. Here\u2019s a day in the life of this professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Getting Ready for the Day Ahead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The morning starts well before patients come in through the door. They will double-check who is scheduled and get the rooms prepared. By setting them up and restocking, each service performed can go just a bit smoother. Not only that, but everything will be cleaned, sterilized, or disinfected, depending on what is being wiped down. After it\u2019s all done, the team is ready to welcome people who walk through their doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One-on-One Time with Patients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dental hygienist will then start to take care of their patients one-by-one when they come in for their appointments. They typically take X-rays and then look at the images for anything of concern. Afterward, they’ll look at the mouth itself and spot anything that looks off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will also do a thorough cleaning and remove any plaque or tartar that\u2019s present. That way, when the dentist comes by, there\u2019s a blank slate to look at and give effective treatments to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keeping Records and Midday Tasks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During and after their time with a patient, they will update records and make sure that everything they did is accurately written down. This will help monitor how someone’s oral health changes between their visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a hygienist\u2019s job isn\u2019t just this! They often help coordinate appointments and the schedule for the next day. They will make sure everything is confirmed and answer emails if necessary. Not only that, but they will also make sure everything is sterile and maintained for the next round of people who walk through their doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending the Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once the day is over and every patient gets the care they deserve, it’s time to close shop and make sure everything is in place. Like the morning, this afternoon is full of cleaning, sanitizing, and sterilizing. Inventory will be checked, and things will be restocked so everything is fully prepared for the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
